"Memory makes sense of the past in the present to transform our future, and it can be used as a both an emancipatory tool, or a weapon against peace-building."

With his contribution "MEMORY IS MULTICOLOURED", conceived for the #WOD poster campaign 2022, the Mexican architect, activist and scientist Sergio Beltrán-García wants to raise viewers' awareness of how monuments and memorials are used as propaganda, in order to reduce the complexity of human experience, to suppress freedom of expression and to limit protest.

Passers-by in Dresden and visitors to the #WOD poster campaign are invited to remove the top layer of the poster - black against white or good against evil - to reveal a message with infinite shades underneath "MEMORY IS MULTICOLOURED".

When they take off the confronting layers they also reveal a UN report on the weaponisation of memory on social networks.

The art installation aims to create a framework for the creation of a multicolored, dialogic and multidirectional memory.

"MEMORY IS MULTICOLOURED" von Sergio Beltrán-Garciá für #WOD 2022 ist im Auftrag des Zentrums Internationale Kulturelle Bildung Dresden des Goethe-Instituts entstanden.
